The lineage

Indira Sreeram Leela trained under Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam — Kalaprapoorna, Padma Bhushan, and the defining master of modern Kuchipudi — for over fifteen years at the Kuchipudi Art Academy in Chennai. She has collaborated with Padmasri Shobha Naidu, Sri Radha Raja Reddys, Smt. Manju Bhargavi, and other names that are themselves a lineage in this art form. As an ICCR cultural ambassador, she performed on government-sponsored tours across the former Soviet Union, Europe, Canada, and the United States. Her students have gone on to teach in their own right, in her own community and as far as Dallas.

Community

Women for a Cause

Dance built the platform; she has spent it on others. Across twenty-five years, Indira has served as Cultural Chair for major Telugu-American gatherings — the Telangana Development Forum’s 20th anniversary at NATS in Washington DC, TADGV’s 40th, the ATA Convention — sat on the ATA All-USA Women’s team, advised cultural conventions for ATA and NATA, and served as Treasurer of the Telangana Development Forum. She has raised funds for temples across New York and New Jersey through benefit performances including Kuchipudi Lahari, Jewels of Kuchipudi, Brahmotsavam for Balaji Mandir, and events for the Shankara Eye Foundation. When the pandemic hit, she supported artists through their hardest season. Each year, she sponsors the education of children in India who need it.
